Wantunn mee

I recently started reading Fables , a comic book series by Vertigo and I’m hooked.
This is what I would best describe as Shrek for adults.
I’ve reached volume 3 and so far, the basic storyline is that someone (the Adversary) has conquered all the lands of the Fables (from your favorite stories including little read riding hood, Cinderella etc etc.. you get the idea) causing them to flee into safer territory, i.e. our world or what they term the Mundy’s (short for mundane). So what is so interesting about this? Read on but be warned, spoilers ahead.

After fleeing the land of Fables, the human looking ones settled in Fabletown, somewhere within a regular Mundy city, while those who couldn’t pass off as humans (the 3 little pigs, 3 blind mice, Goldilocks and the 3 bears etc) stayed at the farm.
Someone gave a lot of thought to weaving the various fairy tales together into a single story so we’re introduced to the fact that there is only one Prince Charming (yes, his name is Charming) who has a problem staying faithful to his wives, hence wife number 1 = Snow White (currently deputy mayor of Fabletown) who left him after she found him sleeping with her sister Rose Red; wife number 2 = Sleeping Beauty and wife number 3 = Cinderella.
The big bad wolf (now sheriff of Fabletown known as Bigby Wolf) from the 3 little pigs story is the same big bad wolf from little red riding hood (apparently he’s kind of immortal so filling his belly with stones and throwing him into the river didn’t kill him, it just took him a really long time to pass out the stones).
Goldilocks turned out to be a slut (and pyscho) who is still sleeping with baby bear from the 3 bears who resorts to shacking up with Blue Beard after leading a failed coup at the Farm.
Oh, and did I mention that Snow White got herself pregnant with Bigby Wolf’s baby?
There are tons of other references in the story and I guess it’s only a matter of time before I get the entire series.
