Visit your dentist regularly… or else

by on Sep.02, 2008, under Ramblings

After putting it off for about 2 years, I finally went to the dentist for my regular check.
The good:
The dentist was very accommodating to my “I’m allergic to pain” request.
The bad:
Randomly had one upper wisdom tooth extracted (another 3 days MC.. how to take?) and 2 fillings. Told to go back for another lower wisdom tooth extraction (surgery! 5 days MC) and another 2 filling. Apparently the last dentist who told me I could leave my wisdom tooth as is didn’t quite check that it was coming out horizontally.
The silver lining:
At least I now know that I can still blog while jazzed up on painkillers. Oh, and I can’t feel my nose.

Who in the world is JUL10

by on Jul.10, 2008, under Ramblings

Finally got my office phone upgraded (long story) yesterday with a spanking new unit.
Today, I get back to my desk and realise the UI says JUL10. It took me a couple of minutes before figuring out who JUL10 was.

20 Years Already?

by on Nov.16, 2007, under Ramblings

Just came across news of the release of the 20th Anniversary Legacy Edition of Joe Satriani’s Surfing with the Alien
I can still remember that this was the 2nd CD I had ever bought at that time (the first being Motley Crue’s Dr Feelgood
20 years later and I’m still listening to these 2 CDs on a regular basis even if the format has changed to mp3s and wmas. I still can’t play any of the songs beyond the intro for Circles, but these are still the 2 greatest albums in my collection (or so I think :P )
Man I feel old.

Lucky or Unlucky?

by on Nov.12, 2007, under Ramblings

So is it supposed to be lucky or unlucky when you wake up in the morning; put on your shoes to go to work; feel something inside; shake out your boot; and a small cockroach drops out .. dead?

Home sweet home

by on Aug.31, 2007, under Ramblings

It’s nice to be home, even if it’s just away for a 1 week plus trip to Sunnyvale. Lessons I learned on this trip:
1. 2 egg omelette’s for breakfast everyday is great, except for your health.
2. It is possible to put on 2 kg in less then 10 days.
3. The portions in the U.S. are huge. Out of all the meals there, I only managed to finish 2-3, and it scares me that I managed to finish those.
4. It’s never good when you call your bank and they tell you you’ve hit the credit limit on your visa/mastercard.

Rio Brazilian

by on Apr.23, 2007, under Ramblings

Restaurant, not hair removal technique.
Anyway, went down on Sunday for lunch at this new place, Rio Brazilian Restaurant, around the Queensway (or was it QueensTown?) area after seeing the write up in the new paper. They were having 1-for-1 offers and hey, who doesn’t like 1-for-1s right?
Anyway, made our way there at noon (it’s next to a remand centre) and were promptly seated. The place looks pretty quaint and new, decor etc looked ok. There were 2 seating areas, basically indoors and outdoors and we were seated at the indoor area. However, the air-conditioning was somewhat lacking and it got progressively hotter as the mean progressed.
The salad bar was pretty standard stuff, but the biggest complaint would have been the actual main courses. The complaint? The staff basically started serving from the same table every time. For those of you who have gone to Brazilian restaurants will know that they serve you the meat on skewers that they bring to your table and basically carve up on the spot. Since we were physically the furthest possible point from the kitchen, the staff didn’t get around to our table like 75% of the time. At the end of 2 hours, we basically gave up (the kids were getting grouchy) and headed off.
I think a lot boils down to the fact that the staff seemed to be still working out the kinks in their operation. Plates were dropped with alarming frequency (at least 4-5 times while we were there), the servers weren’t really good at the carving (dropped fish on my brother in law’s pants) and of course what was mentioned in the previous paragraph as well.
Lessons learned:
1. Not going back there again, unless I’m not paying.
2. That’s the last time I take recommendations from the new paper.

Drool yourself awake?

by on Apr.07, 2007, under Ramblings

I’m meeting some friends at a coffee house and everyone has ordered something nice except for me. For some odd reason, I haven’t ordered anything and the sight of the food makes me drool. But no matter how I wipe, I can’t seem to get my face clean and thats when I wake up and realise I’ve been drooling in my sleep again.
