7 days in the Jungle …

by on Feb.10, 2007, under Ramblings

… And I didn’t even get a lousy t-shirt.
7 Things I learned this week:
1. 1 shower in 7 days = bad
2. After 3 days, microwaved bee hoon tastes like heaven.
3. It IS possible to survive on 2 hours sleep a night if you really have to.
4. I hate Lim Chu Kang.
5. It’s possible to meet the nicest bunch of people in a jungle in the middle of nowhere.
6. Sh*t stacks, so be careful when pooping on level ground.
7. Don’t eat the Pontay rice :P .

Just wondering…

by on Jan.08, 2007, under Ramblings

Has anyone else ever experienced spending too much time on the bowl, getting hit by a severe case of pins and needles 30 seconds after standing up and falling over?
Not saying that it happened to me :P just wondering…

Why do I itch?

by on Dec.18, 2006, under Family Time

So I’ve been experiencing a long bout of allergic reactions (and I have no idea what’s the trigger) for a couple of months now. I had no idea what caused them until I had a conversation with my wife yesterday in the car.
I was commenting that I would have known her for 10 years by next year and she replied that we’ve been married for 7 years already (from the registration of the marriage). This was followed by the question of whether I have the 7 year itch.
And I certainly do. As evidenced by the rashes that pop up every 4-5 days if I don’t take the anti-histamines.
Therefore the answer to the question “Why do I itch” is that it’s because of my wife. :P

X-Ray

by on Dec.14, 2006, under Family Time

Got a mild scare today when Caden was getting his bath. We noticed a huge swollen area at his chest that seemed to have appeared overnight.
What followed was everyone running down to see Dr Yip and getting him a chest x-ray (at 4 months!). Thankfully everything turned out fine and it’s just normal “bone struture” according Dr Yip, although we’re still trying to figure out how it appeared mysteriously.

What the ?!?!

by on Nov.23, 2006, under Rants

My wife asked me the following question today. Apparently it was given to one of her collegue’s kid (a primary one student) in a math test for a measly 4 marks.
The question:
A Hen costs $6
A Rooster costs $3
Chicks are $0.1 a piece.
How many Hens, Roosters and Chicks do you need if you have exactly $100 and the sum total of Hens, Roosters and Chicks must also be 100?
Yeah, I couldn’t solve it via algebra or any other mathematical method I knew. In the end, 2 minutes with perl and a text editor solved the equation in 2 seconds but bearing in mind the average P1 kid is not going to have a computer during the test (heck, not even a calculator), I’m baffled at why this would be a math question.
Anyone who knows how to solve this mathematically, drop me a note.
FYI, if you have to know the answer, click on the more link…

Falling out of bed

by on Nov.14, 2006, under Family Time

You know it’s gonna be a tough day when you start the day falling out of bed.
So I was woken up by Caden crying next to my bed this morning. I look over and the wifey is not there…hmm.. probably in the loo. So I scramble to put in his pacifier before he wakes up fully (which I can tell from the rising screams).
Since his bed/rocker/dunno how you describe it thingy is next to my bed, the nearest exit happens to be the foot of the bed; which I head for; and step on the edge of the (platform) bed; and somehow slip; and land on my ass.
As predicted, it was a lousy start to a lousy bug filled day.

Freaky Coincidences

by on Oct.31, 2006, under Ramblings

Right after I posted the previous entry, I buy the new paper and whats the headline story? About a woman who got her appendix removed when it was fine. How freaky is that.

Interesting thing I learnt over the weekend

by on Oct.30, 2006, under Ramblings

The possible causes of appendicitis are many, but no one really knows why it happens.
At some hospitals here, you need to queue for an available operating theatre.
It’s faster to operate if they suspect you have appendicitis then to send you for tests and wait for the results.
If they operate they take out your appendix whether or not you have appendicitis or not because:
1. They don’t want to confuse any doctors in future who sees the scar and expects the appendix to be gone and
2. In case it was a mild case which may recur in future.
Lastly, we can apparently get on fine without our appendix. Which leads me to ask, what else in our body do we not really need (besides all the extra fats in my case).
