Weird Guy on the MRT

by on Jul.27, 2005, under Ramblings

Guy comes running as the train pulls up – totally ignores the horde of people waiting at the side of the doors – elbows this way past 2 ladies (there was a pretty big crowd) – runs into the train as soon as the doors open – elbows past another guy entering from the other door – slams himself into the corner seat, closes his eyes, exhales and falls asleep.
Some people should just go to bed earlier at night.

Sheet

by on Jul.19, 2005, under Ramblings

I cannot remember the last time this happened to me. Was on the way to meet my friend at cityhall when I decided (don’t ask me why) to walk over from the office instead of catching the train from bugis.
So I stopped at the traffic lights and next thing I know… splat… a big green (and I swear) flourescent blob hits me on the shoulders.
What kind of self respecting bird poops green luminous shit? Anyway, lesson learnt, don’t stnd under the lamposts when waiting for the lights to turn. Had to go pick up a new shirt to change before the movie.. good thing Fila was having a sale.
Ah well.. could have been worse.. could have landed on my head I suppose.

Sharks Freak Me Out.

by on Jul.18, 2005, under Ramblings

Just when you thought it was safe to get in the water again….
Made the mistake of watching the discovery/national geographic channels yesterday night. It’s probably fairly common knowledge that sharks can attack pretty close to shore but watching it happen really re-inforces that statement.
In this case, they were showing sharks catching/eating some birds that were just learning to fly and so were wading in the ocean. I bet if I were standing on the beach, I could have hit the shark with a well thrown soda can. It was that near to the shoreline.
Switched a channel and it was yet another shark program. They were tagging some sharks for tracking and of course they had to catch them first. You really get a feel of how large these are when they pull them up next to the boat. 11 foot is by no means the largest and it already looks huge next to the humans in the boat.
Next program I switched to was (surprise surprise) sharks again.. myth busters this time, trying out 4 scenes from the original Jaws movie. Stuff I learnt from this show.
* Sharks can grow up to 20+ feet
* A few thousand pounds
* They apparently can pull barrels under water
Suffice to say I’m staying out of the water.

Weird Dreams Part II

by on Jul.08, 2005, under Ramblings

Last night Cordelia slept in my room so before we sleep (in fact, every time we wake up in the middle of the night too), we normally check that she’s nicely covered since she has a endency to kick her blankets off (all 5 of them).
So I’m covering her up and pulling the sleeves on her jammies down to cover her arms when suddenly she sits up. I’m thinking oh no.. she’s awake and won’t want to go back to sleep. Instead she starts yelling, “I don’t want I don’t want” followed by “I pah yeh yeh” (translates to I beat grandpa).
And thats the story of how I got whacked a couple of times last night by my sleeping daughter. I wonder what she was dreaming about?

Weird dreams and a weird lift

by on Jul.07, 2005, under Ramblings

Part I
These days I’ve been having odd dreams.. wonder what’s the cause.. or maybe I’m just remembering it more?
Anyway, last night I dreamt I was buying 4D. The odd part was it was in letters and I was buying the word “FAT BASTARD” (before anyone brings it up, I haven’t seen that episode of Austin Powers for ages. Really). So I go hand in the slip with the word to the counter and suddenly realise (I don’t know how this idea got to me though) that I was buying a permutation of all the letters in the word. And it cost $408. Maybe I should layoff the 4D buying for a while? Luckily I didn’t tear anymore curtains this time around.
Part II
Going to work this morning, I was waiting for the lift as usual and when it arrived, there was the creepiest boy alive standing in the lift. And he was standing in the exact center of the lift. And he had the creepiest smile on his face. Good thing I took a quick check behind me and saw the sun was out. I didn’t check if had a shadow though as suggested by the qoomonster.

Period .

by on May.30, 2005, under Ramblings

So we were having breakfast today and talking to one of our un-named (but linked :P ) collegue when we asked her about her impending resignation date to take up a higher calling (i.e. tai tai).
Her reply: “I don’t have a date. I have a period.”
Take 2 panadols and call me in the morning (on second thoughts, don’t).
Update:
Her reason for making the comment: “The egg was very hot!”
Go figure :D

Working in the Cafe

by on Apr.29, 2005, under Ramblings

I’m working from URLs today and tomorrow cos I dodn’t bother to arrange for a cubicle space while I am in Sunnyvale.
However, turns out it’s a great place to work cos everything is available here:

  • network via wireless
  • power sockets on every wall
  • free drinks (Coffee, Tea and Soft drinks) are available
  • and you can get food easily (it’s a cafe. duh) like pancakes or sandwiches… PANCAKE.. you hear that PANCAKE!!!! whahahahahahhahahahhahahha… err… sorry .. went into mad scientist mode there for a bit.

Anyway, today happened to be bring your child to work day so there were lots of children running around. There were also activity cordinators playing games with the children and a big ass bouncy castle was brought in as well.
The weather is cool… actually it’s great. I can understand people wanting to work here, if only to get away from the hot and humid Singapore weather.
